Villa Jovis: Reconstructing Tiberius' Retreat on the Island of Capri Paperback – June 14, 2023

Tourists who invest the effort to see the remains of the Villa Jovis are often disappointed: aside from giving a sense of scale the ruins provide little insight into what it was once like. Yet the sublime site on the Island of Capri; at the edge of a 1100 foot vertical cliff overlooking the Mediterranean and its equally interesting resident: Tiberius, second emperor of Rome, continue to occupy our imagination. The purpose for this effort is to offer another interpretation of what it may have been, one that will either spark new dialogue, or hopefully be acknowledged as a convincing argument.
